Trivia contest answers

Congratulations to our winner: Teddy Jenner! Yes, that Teddy Jenner – the ILIndoor.com blogger, radio host, podcaster, voice of the Washington Stealth, former NLL player, and all-around knowledgeable lacrosse guy. Teddy got every question correct, and wins the Reebok shaft. It might be too late for 2012, but if the Knighthawks have another open tryout next season like they did this year (or even better, the Stealth), maybe you'll see Mr. Jenner out there with a brand new stick. Coming soon to the NLL: the Teddy Jenner Comeback Player of the Year Award!
Andrew Waldon came second with 9 correct answers, followed by Stephen Stamp (another media guy) with 8.
Lesson learned – for our next contest, I'll have to add another rule saying that media people and current or former NLL players and staff are not eligible. But I didn't, so Teddy gets the shaft.
The answers are after the jump.
- Before Darris Kilgour came back to the Bandits, what team did he coach?
Washington Power - Who was captain of the Wings when they won the 2001 NLL Championship?
Dave Stilley. Here's proof – if you look closely, you can actually see me in the background of that picture. - What two former league MVPs were drafted first overall by the Knighthawks?
Casey Powell (1998), John Grant (1999) - Kaleb Toth famously scored the winning goal in the 2000 final with one second left on the clock. Who got the assist?
Colin Doyle. Here is a video of the goal, the last professional goal ever scored in Maple Leaf Gardens. - How did the Roughnecks acquire Tracey Kelusky?
First overall pick in the Montreal Express dispersal draft. - The Mammoth's first-ever win was an OT thriller against Toronto. Who scored in overtime?
Brian Langtry - Who scored the game-winning goal with under a second to play in Edmonton's only win in their inaugural season?
Cam Bergman. Teddy Jenner was a member of the Rush during that season and played in that game. In the game sheet for this game on NLL.com, it lists D'Arcy Berthiame as the goal scorer, but on the Career Stats page, we see that Berthiame never played for the Rush. - Who was the first player ever signed by the Swarm?
I remember it being Ray Guze, but Teddy (who played for the Swarm that year) says it was Guze and Neil Doddridge. I accepted either one. - Who was the team captain in San Jose before Colin Doyle?
Jim Moss. Shaydon Santos (a popular answer) was captain before Moss, and Cam Woods before him. - There are three people who have won three different major season awards in the NLL. Name them.
Gary Gait: Rookie of the Year (1991), MVP (1995-1999, 2003), NLL Sportsmanship Award (2004, 2005)
Brodie Merrill: Rookie of the Year (2006), Defensive Player of the Year (2006), Transition Player of the Year (2009, 2010)
Derek Keenan: Rookie of the Year (1992), GM of the Year (2006, 2010), Les Bartley Award (2006)

Yes, but the question was directly before Doyle
you have a point, though.

Not true
Graeme, you say that “on the Career Stats page, we see that Berthiame never played for the Rush”. However, Darcy Berthiame’s career page http://stats.nll.com/stats/player.php?id=248 actually shows him playing for the Rush in 2006, when the game was played. Cam Bergman’s career stats page vhttp://stats.nll.com/stats/player.php?id=176 on the other hand, shows him not playing at all in 2006. So, other than someone like Teddy who played in the game, it’s very difficult to give the answer you want for that question.
after reading this I am more confused than I was before…

If you go to nll.com/careerstats.php, choose “Berthiame, DArcy” and click Submit, it shows 6 seasons: Pittsburgh, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, and 2 in Minnesota. “Bergman, Cam” shows 2 years in Anaheim and 3 in Edmonton, including 2006.
Berthiame’s 2006 stats on the page you linked to are exactly Bergman’s 2006 stats on the careerstats.php page, so something got screwed up in the NLL’s database somewhere.
I asked Mike Wilson for an Edmonton trivia question and he gave me this one, including the fact that the game sheet had it wrong. Mike was also at the game, though didn’t play. I only accepted the correct answer to the question. If nll.com or any other web site gives you an incorrect answer, I can’t be held responsible for that.
