With Casey Powell Out, Who is NLL's Best American?
Casey Powell will not be playing with the Rochester Knighthawks this season, that we know. Last season in Boston, Powell broke the record for most goals by an American NLL player with 254. But now that he will no longer be playing in the Indoor game, who is the best American player in boxla?
There are not many Americans in the NLL to begin with, with most of the NLL population coming from Ontario and British Columbia. The American lacrosse players that do play are more committed to field lacrosse most of the time, so it is hard to find great NLL players from the state. Which American players have the most accomplished right now?
On the defensive side of the ball, there is John Orsen of the Colorado Mammoth, and Joe Cinosky and Mitch Belisle from the Minnesota Swarm. Belisle is from Massachusetts, and plays with the Boston Cannons and previously the Boston Blazers. But if we are looking for a replacement for Powell, it will need to be an offensive player.
The list of American forwards is rather slim, and not overly impressive. Bill McGlone, Brendan Mundorf, Max Seibald, Joe Walyers, Joel White and Paul Rabil boast better field ability than box. Rabil is emerging as one of the faces of the Washington Stealth, but as a transition player, will he ever be what he is in MLL?
When it comes down to it, there is just no replacement for Powell in the NLL. Can someone emerge? Who do you think will be the next great American lacrosse player?
