Is there a rift with Styres and Grant?

UNIONDALE, NY - JUNE 16: John Grant Jr. #58 of the Long Island Lizards controls the ball against the Chesapeake Bayhawks during their Major League Lacrosse game on June 16, 2011 at Shuart Stadium in Uniondale, New York. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

John Grant jr played for years with the Rochester Knighthawks as the face of that franchise. Curt Styres buys the team, and just a couple years later he is traded to the Mammoth. Grant helped the Toronto Nationals win a championship. A couple years later, they move to Hamilton and Grant is traded to the Lizards. Styres owns both teams.

Grant has been criticized for his inability to pass the ball and his refusal to pass. He likes the ball in his stick and he wants to be the man in control. You cannot deny he is a winner though. Champions Cup, Steinfeld Cup, Mann Cup... the guy can win. So why does Styres keep moving him?

Star-divide

I have never been in the Knighthawks or Nationals locker room. I do not know what a kind of person Grant or Styres is, so I really have no idea what possibly could have caused a rift. Styres is a very respected owner around lacrosse and I have never really heard anything bad about him.

Grant has been criticized a lot, but as I said, he wins, and isn't that what really matters? I understand the money making argument because lacrosse does need that. But does trading the face of your franchise does it? I do not see how.

I am no one to speculate, but it is definitely worth talking about. Did a rift happen? It looks like it, and who lost in this divorce?

Choices not ability

I don’t think anyone’s ever criticized Jr.‘s ability to pass. If they have, they’re out of their minds. He’s one of the best passers in the world. That’s actually something people who play with him comment on all the time. They point out that when he has the ball you’d better be ready because he’ll get the ball to you in places you didn’t think it was possible to make a pass. He’s quick, deceptive and deadly accurate with his passing. People’s concern is that he doesn’t do it often enough or at the times they’d like. Fair concerns, but you can’t question his passing skill.

Never questioned his skills. Just maybe Styres and him clashed possibly.
