Denver-Long Island Statistical Analysis 6/25

DENVER, CO - JUNE 25: Members of the Denver Outlaws warm up prior to facing the Long Island Lizards during Major League Lacrosse action at INVESCO Field at Mile High on June 25, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

Well, this is the final stat recap for the 4 games that we had on Friday and Saturday. The Outlaws won 18-11 to improve to 5-1. While the Lizards showed some life in the second quarter by outscoring the Outlaws 5-4, this was not enough to overcome the 6-1 deficit that they faced after the first quarter.

While the score seems pretty lopsided (which it is), Long Island did have a couple of players that had above average performances. Let's take a look at them.

Star-divide

Like expected, Denver had the highest rated players in this game.

Denver

Rank Player Rating
1 Connor Martin 6
2 Brendan Mundorf 5
3 Drew Westervelt 4
4 Matt Bocklet 3
5 Max Seibald 2

Connor Martin scored 5 goals in this game and added no assists to have a 5 point game. He was able to beat his point total from last season (4) and helped to silence some of his critics. Right behind Martin was Brendan Mundorf who added 4 goals. Mundorf is averaging just under 6 points per game and I don't see him slowing down anytime soon.

Long Island was led by Stephen Berger and Matt Danowski, the story for most of the season so far.

Long Island

Rank Player Rating
1 Stephen Berger 4
2 Matt Danowski 3
3 Zach Brenneman 2
4 Ryan Young 0
5 Drew Adams 0

If Long Island wishes to make the jump from 2-4 to having a winning record, they must find some other way to score so that they do not have to rely on Berger, Danowski, and Stephen Peyser. I know that they just acquired John Grant Jr. from Hamilton but it is too early to tell what type of difference that he will bring to the Lizards.

Both teams shot approximately the same, the only difference being Denver out shot Long Island 46-32 and had more shots on goal by a lot (31-15). Save for extreme circumstances, the team with the most shots wins and this game did not differ from that. Here is how the top five players shot (minimum 5 shots):

Player Goals Shots on Goal Total Shots eS%
Connor Martin 5 6 7 0.816
Matt Danowski 2 4 5 0.560
Max Seibald 2 4 5 0.560
Brendan Mundorf 4 7 10 0.520
Stephen Berger 3 4 7 0.490
