Boston-Denver Statistical Analysis 7/3
Fireworks. That single word can sum up the battle for first place between Boston and Denver on the day before the 4th of July. With the two highest scoring teams going head to head we knew that the win would be given to the team that could score the most goals (yes, yes, I know that I just stated one of the most annoying sports cliches).
Going in to half time, this was definitely the Denver show with the Outlaws outscoring the Cannons 6-0 in the 2nd quarter. Behind a powerful performance by Paul Rabil in the final 15:53 of the game, the Cannons were able to walk themselves back into the game and then even take (and hold on to) the lead.
Like I mentioned previously, Paul Rabil was the star of this show and he walked away with my MVP award.
Boston Cannons
| Rank | Player | Rating |
| 1 | Paul Rabil | 6 |
| 2 | Brad Ross | 4 |
| 3 | Matthew Smalley | 4 |
| 4 | Matt Poskay | 3 |
| 5 | Kevin Buchanan | 2 |
I have been impressed with Bill McGlone lately, he got off to a slow start but has been continuously improving to finally get his first 4 point game because of his hat trick.
Denver Outlaws
| Rank | Player | Rating |
| 1 | Bill McGlone | 4 |
| 2 | Peet Poillon | 2 |
| 3 | Max Seibald | 2 |
| 4 | Andrew Hennessey | 1 |
| 5 | Lee Zink | 1 |
Looking at the shooting comparisons between the teams lets us see why the game turned out like it did. Boston had 29 shots on goal and 12 off target while Denver took more shots but only had 26 on goal and 19 off. This goes to show that taking smart shots is usually better than just feeding the ball into the crease and hoping for a lucky bounce or hoping that the goalie is distracted. Brad Ross was the most effective shooter (minimum 5 shots) with a hat trick off of his 4 shots that were on goal and only missed the frame once.
| Player | Goals | Shots on Goal | Total Shots | eS% |
| Brad Ross | 3 | 4 | 5 | 0.720 |
| Max Quinzani | 2 | 3 | 5 | 0.480 |
| Bill McGlone | 3 | 5 | 8 | 0.469 |
| Paul Rabil | 3 | 8 | 10 | 0.450 |
| Matt Poskay | 2 | 4 | 6 | 0.444 |
| Max Seibald | 2 | 6 | 9 | 0.321 |
| Peet Poillon | 2 | 5 | 10 | 0.260 |
Hope everyone enjoyed these statistical recaps and I will see you again on July 16th for the next regular season game.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.
