Bayhawks Get Their Wings Clipped
Lets take a trip, a trip back in time. The Chesapeake Bayhawks were 3-1 with their only loss coming to the Boston Cannons while the Hamilton Nationals were 1-3 with their sole victory coming as a 14-13 victory over the winless Rochester Rattlers. The Bayhawks were easily scoring double digits in each of their games and the Nats were able to score more than 10 in their only win.
In the 5 most recent games for each team, the Bayhawks are 2-3 and averaging 9.8 goals per game while the Nats are 4-1 and averaging 14.6 goals per game. It seems as if the Hawks and Nats have reversed their roles. This could be due to the Nationals having many rookies that have finally adjusted from NCAA to MLL.
Hamilton Nationals
| Rank | Player | Rating |
| 1 | Stephen Keogh | 6 |
| 2 | Jeremy Boltus | 5 |
| 3 | Brodie Merrill | 4 |
| 4 | Joe Walters | 4 |
| 5 | Jordan Hall | 4 |
The Nationals had 9 different goal scorers, Chesapeake had 6 total goals. Six! This is due to a strong performance by the Hamilton defense, as evidenced by Brodie Merrill being the 3rd highest rated player in the game. Both Keogh and Hall scored hat tricks while Boltus, Walters, and David Earl scored twice. Boltus is still continuing to campaign for winning Rookie of the Year with this 2 goal and 2 assist performance.
Chesapeake Bayhawks
| Rank | Player | Rating |
| 1 | Danny Glading | 3 |
| 2 | Brian Carroll | 3 |
| 3 | Ben Rubeor | 1 |
| 4 | Steven Brooks | 1 |
| 5 | Ben Hunt | 0 |
Chesapeake is currently sitting in a three way tie for 3rd place. The main thing that separates them from Denver and Long Island is that it seems like they only have one big star. Denver has Brendan Mundorf and Drew Westervelt and Long Island has Stephen Peyser, Matt Danowski, and Stephen Berger. Who does Chesapeake have? Danny Glading. While I will admit that he is a good player (a very good player), one guy can not do everything by himself. Ben Rubeor has been off of his game lately (points from his last 5 with most recent first: 1, 2, 2, 4, 4) and so has Ben Hunt (0, 2, 2, 1, 3). Also, if we look at the main goalie for each team, Brian Phipps finishes in last place with a 14.08 GAA.
It seems like I am focusing on the negatives of the Hawks a lot, but let's be honest, a 16-6 loss with the season almost finished is not what you expect to see from a potential playoff team. The only bright spot that I can really see is that Danny Glading is being consistent.
