MLL 2012: Where to Host Championship Weekend and All Star Game
After three years of Navy Marine Corps Satdium hosting Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend, MLL is looking elsewhere to host the event. The championship attendance yesterday was around 5,000, which really is not good enough. You can blame most of it on the hurricane, but it is time to move the event.
And the best place I can think about is Denver. Boston has been rewarded with their attendance by hosting the all star game two seasons in a row. After breaking the professional lacrosse attendance record, and MLL season attendance record, it's time we see some action in Denver.
The all star game location has also not yet been announced. Before yesterday, I would have said move it out of Boston after two years. But with their championship, I expect a boom of attendance in Beantown. I expect that we will see the Cannons attendance go up this season now that Boston has another winner.
So I would keep the all star game in Boston and move championship weekend to Denver. Some people want the event in Charlotte or Columbus, which is not a bad idea, but those teams are still too new to tell how they would do. If one of them is successful this season, I would try it in the next.
The Chesapeake Bayhawks attendance has gone up in this past year, but they have hosted an event for three years and it is time to move on. Rochester and Hamilton are out of the question; they draw only around 1,000 a game and will get lucky if they get anything more than 3,000.
What do you think? Where should the MLL events be held in 2012?

Attendance Boost?
When Toronto won their MLL Cup in 2009 as the Nationals, the team promptly moved from the 25k+ BMO field, to the ~7k Lamport Stadium (7k is a generous estimate without knowing official numbers). The team still couldn’t sell out the seats and promptly moved to Hamilton for 2011.
I wouldn’t expect a rise in attendance based solely on a championship victory. It will take more than that to bring in the fans.
Remember, as my lacrosse coach use to tell us on the field, always keep your head up, and your feet moving forward.
Different in Boston, they have a fanbase to build off of
