Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

@PhillyWings defeat @NLLBandits 14-13 In Twitter Jersey Game

By Angela Taylor, ACT1 Photography

The Philadelphia Wings had a successful Twitter jersey night with their second victory this season against the Buffalo Bandits 14-13 yesterday. Coming into the game Buffalo was riding a three game losing streak and was in desperate need of a victory. On the other hand, the Wings would tie the Toronto Rock for number one in the division with a victory, so both teams wholeheartedly desired the win.

Scoring started early for the Wings, when Brendan Mundorf (@Bmuney2) scored his first of the night. Mundorf was one of the Wings strongest assets in their first victory over Buffalo. Early on the game was very back and forth. Matt Giles tied the game up four minutes in, but that wouldn't last long. Kevin Crowley (@kevincrowley21) gave the Wings the lead back again with his 11th goal of the season. Bandit all-star Luke Wiles scored short handed to tie the game back up again. It appeared that the Bandits had usurped the lead thanks to a Kevin Buchanan goal, however the goal was waived off after the Philadelphia challenge. Wings defenseman Pat Heim (@PatHeim_) scored his second goal of the year to give the Wings the lead after one quarter.

Take the jump to read about the rest of the game and where these teams go moving forward.

Star-divide

The game was still very close throughout the second quarter. Giles and Mundorf started the quarter by each scoring their second of the night for their respective teams. Enforcer Brandon Francis scored his first of the year to tie things up again, now at four goals a piece. That's when the Wings began to pull away.

At this point the game seemed to be falling apart from the Bandits side of things. At the end of the second and beginning of the third the Wings went on to score four in a row, two from Crowley and two from Brodie Merrill (@brodiemerrill_). During that stretch goalie Mike Thompson was pulled in favor of backup Angus Goodleaf. The Wings got their lead up to 11-6, but then saw the Bandits slowly chip that away goal by goal.

The Bandits got goals from all over the place seemingly to get back in this game. Chad Culp tied the game up at 12 for the Bandits 8 minutes and 53 seconds into the 4th. Drew Westervelt answered with two goals to give the Wings a comfortable two goal lead with only few minutes remaining. John Tavares buried a penalty shot, but it was two late. The Bandits dropped their fourth straight, 14-13.

Luke Wiles led all Bandits in points with 1 goal and 5 assists. Matt Giles and John Tavares each had 3 goals and 2 assists. For the Wings Dan Dawson had 1 goal and 9 assists, Crowley had 4 goals and 1 assist, Brodie Merrill had 3 goals and 2 assists, and Drew Westervelt had

The Wings move to 3-2 and tie Toronto for the best record in the East. The Bandits fall to 2-4 and are tied with Rochester for the worst record in the East. Philadelphia's next game comes next week Saturday when they cross the border to face the team they currently are tied with, the Toronto Rock. Buffalo has off for a little less than a month, as they don't play again until March 10th when they play against the Rochester Knighthawks and Blue Cross Arena. And to close things out there is really only one way you could end an article about the Twitter Jersey game. #NLL
