Fan Picks: Who Wins the Iannucci-Rabil Trade?
So by now I think you know that Athan Iannucci was traded to the Washington Stealth for Paul Rabil. Unless you didn't, and that probably means you just woke up, you haven't been on the site today or you have been in a coma. If any of those things are true, then yeah, Iannucci was traded for Rabil today.
The Stealth have needed someone who can get them some points, but in return for that they give up arguably the best offensive transition player in the league. Meanwhile, the Rush essentially just got Paul Rabil and three first round picks for Brodie Merrill back in August, as they traded Merrill for Nooch.
Now I am wondering, what do you think? Who wins this deal? Vote and leave your comments.

I would say that Edmonton won this trade. Washington had to give up an asset which they were making use of and so traded some utility. Nooch was not playing in Edmonton, so their team is strictly better than it was before the trade.

I fail to see how this cannot be a win for Edmonton. Ianucci wasn’t playing, so all they gave up was a second rounder for Rabil and a first.
This could be a win-win trade though. The question whether it is a win for Washington. There scoring is bad, lowest in the league at 9.2 G/Gm. Their defence is ok at 12.2 GA/Gm. That is 5th in the league. League average is right around 12 G/gm so that isn’t too bad. On its surface it would make some sense to give up Rabil – who is an all round sort – for Ianucci, who will presumably put the ball in the net.
If we dig deeper though, I think it is unlikely that there is much value in this trade for Washington. Washington’s woes are almost entirely attributable to a brutal shooting percentage. They are shooting at 16.8% as a team. League average is 24%. This is being led by their big gunners of Ratcliff and Duch at 14.7% and 16.7% shooting respectively. Those guys career averages must be way closer to league average (but due to my inability to find the career stats page i can’t pull it up) and they will likely rebound over the course of the season.
Also, another way to increase shooting percentage is to generate more transition quick break opportunities. Without Rabil, Washington will probably be less adept at that.
So, Ianucci might take a few shots away from Duch and Ratcliff, and he will probably shoot at something above league average – but I doubt he is going to be sufficiently good enough to over come a middling defence that will now have to play without Rabil and will have a weaker transition game.
I say the Rush won
