Boston University Adds D-I Lacrosse
In the midst of so much lacrosse news yesterday, one story was overshadowed by the crazy trade rumors coming out of the NLL. Inside Lacrosse reported that Boston University was expected to add a Division I lacrosse program at some time today. Previously Boston has played at a club level in the MCLA, where they finished 6-4 in the PCLL last season. Boston is the second university in the past weeks to announce that they were heading to D-1, as Furman announced that they would be launching a program only a few weeks ago.
In other Division-1 sports Boston plays in the America East conference, along with Albany, Binghamton, Harford, UMBC, Stony Brook and Vermont. They would be expected to join the conference for lacrosse as well. Last year the conference had two winning teams, Stony Brook (10-4) and Hartford (11-7). It appears the Terriers are planning a 2014 entry date into Division-I.
Inside Lacrosse is also reporting a new complex may be announced tomorrow that would bring a new field on campus as well. They could also play at Nickerson Field. Boston opens up their MCLA campaign on February 29th against Northeastern.
Boston has become a hot-bed for lacrosse in the past few years. They are home to the Boston Cannons of the MLL, former home of the Boston Blazers of the NLL, and starting this year the Boston Rockhoppers of the NALL hope to play a few home games just up the road in Lowell. Many believe a fellow MCLA member, Boston College could soon be joining the NCAA ranks as well as Southern Methodist University. Keep checking InLaxWeTrust for the latest in NCAA developments.
