Welcome back to the NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse Weekend Review!

Now lets tackle the 5 remaining games that took place this weekend.

First up we will cover North Carolina(6) vs Penn State(17).
This was the opening game for both teams, and was played in front of a crowd of 6,913 in the fourth annual Southern Showdown at Kennesaw State University.
The game started out with a goal by each team, giving a brief tie of 1-1.
UNC broke the tie, and tried to continue the lead, however Penn State was able to always stay in the game, twice cutting the lead to only 3 goals after UNC went up 8-3.
While Penn State fought hard to try and stay in the game, it just wasn’t enough to stop UNC, who took the win 14-10.
UNC outshot Penn State 44-37 and won in the ground ball game 40-28.
North Carolina won 21 of 30 faceoffs and had 15 turnovers, compared to Penn State’s 13.

North Carolina also took on Mercer this weekend.
After an early tie of 1-1, UNC broke open with 8 goals over less then 13 minutes, taking the score to 9-1 with 13:41 left in the second quarter.
Mercer determined not to go out without a fight, closed the half strong by scoring the last 5 goals of the half.
37 seconds into the third a goal by Keoni Rausch pulled Mercer within 6, at 11-5.
UNC continued to dominate and ran up 8 more goals to end the third at 19-5.
Mercer tried to rally back in the fourth, picking up 2 more goals, but UNC was able to pick up one more themselves to end things at 20-7.
This gives UNC a record of 2-0, and Mercer a record of 0-2.

Next up was Colgate(19) vs Bryant.
Colgate came out fighting and Ledwick used his speed to beat his defender and get the first goal of the game. 68 seconds later, Clarkson picked up Colgates second goal.
The second quarter was the most intense of the game, with a total of seven goals being scored in quarter. Colgate was first up with a long-range shot from Baum, making it 3-0.
Bryant then started to pressed back, and a pair of penalties on Colgate was just what Bryant needed to get back in the game. Bryant was able to get their first goal of the game during their Man-Up situation, which then lead their offense to score back-to-back goals only 32 seconds apart to tie the game at 3-3.
The next 8 minutes went back and forth between both teams. Colgate was able to grab a couple of goals to make it 5-3, but then a late goal from Bryant brought them within 1 going into the half.
The Raiders found their mojo again early in the third, getting two goals 15 seconds apart, and just 1:40 into the third. However it was not enough to deter Colgate who answered back, taking the score to 8-5.
In the final 2 minutes of the quarter the Bulldogs were able to get a man-up goal and put the score at 8-6.
Going into the fourth, The Raiders once again started strong scoring 2 goals in just 2:05 of the fourth. Now with the game tied at 8-8 both teams started to get a lot more physical as they tried to get the win. In the end it was Colgate that came out on top by putting 2 in the back of the net, securing their win of 10-8.

Now we head on to Bellarmine vs Robert Morris.
This was the first game for Robert Morris University’s head coach Andrew McMinn.
RMU broke out early giving them a 3-0 lead.
The Knights pulled within one with a score later in the first quarter and a man-up goal early in the second, but the Colonials then shut down Bellarmine, allowing only one goal in the next 28:15, to take control.
RMU then took a 5-1 run to take a 8-3 lead late in the third quarter.
The Knights were able to grab one more goal at the end of the third, and then another quick one at the start of the fourth to cut RMU’s lead to 8-5.
This score would stay for nearly 9 minutes.
The Knights scored three goals in just over three minutes to cut the lead to one at 9-8.
RMU was able to stop Bellarmine from getting another goal, and therefore took the win, 9-8.

The last game on the docket is one that a lot of people were excited to see.
It featured newly NCAA Div 1 Michigan (formally MCLA Division 1) vs Detroit.
Bryant started out picking up 2 goals at 9:59 and 6:35 to go up 2-0 early in the game.
UDM’s Joel Matthews scored consecutively to even the score at 2-2.
Yealy then put U-M up 4-2 early in the second quarter.
Detroit was able to convert on an extra-man opportunity to start a 3 goal run in the second quarter, making it 5-4.
Michigan stopped Detroit's run by getting a goal with 3:46 left in the half making it all tied up at 5-5.
In the third, both teams grabbed a goal making it 6-6.
The Titans' decisive run started with two goals by Maini at 7:41 and 6:12. Paras cut the lead to 8-7, but Detroit notched four straight goals over the next six-plus minutes to make it 12-7.
Both teams traded goals in the final 8 minutes of the fourth quarter to make the final score 13-9 Detroit.
This loss starts Michigan’s off on their first season as an NCAA Division 1 team with a record of (0-1).
