NLL Week Seven Coaches Media Conference Call Recap

By Angela Taylor

It is week seven of the National Lacrosse League season, and today was the weekly head coaches conference call with the NLL media. Here is what had been said, first with Teddy Sanderson from the Toronto Rock and Johnny Mouradian of the Philadelphia Wings.

Mouradian said that they need to give credit to their players, leadership and coaching staff for turning the team around. He said that the key is all about staying within one or two goals when trying to catch up against a team like the Rock.

He also said if a team has the talent, the team has to have mental strategy to win games and get back on track. Sanderson said that the Rock still have a lot of assets and are happy with how they compliment one another. He also said that he likes the depth they are showing with their injuries.

Sanderson said that he was hoping Colin Doyle would return against Philly but he left practice early last night. Mouradian said he wants aggressiveness to win, but not be overly aggressive with penalties. Next up on the call were Mike Hasen of the Rochester Knighthawks and Chris Hall of the Washington Stealth.

Hasen started the call with a statement by the Knighthawks and there is a post up on that incident. Chis Hall talked about the move for Athan Iannucci, and said that Iannucci will be filling the role of a goal scorer with Jeff Zywicki injured, but they had to fill a clear hole on the team.

Hasen had a no comment on whether the players in the incident will play and if they will be suspended. Talking about their previous game against Washington, he said they need to move their feet and have better ball movement with not too many outside shots. He said that on Matt Vinc, he would like him to get a few more stops and cited that he had a good fourth quarter so he could turn it in the right direction. Iannucci will make his Stealth debut this week.

Next was the Colorado Mammoth's Bob Hamley and the Minnesota Swarm's Mike Lines. Lines said that they turned a corner on defense in their two wins this week. Hamley said that on facing the Swarm, they are excited to be playing a team that is playing this well at home.

Hamley said he likes the talent that they brought in, and he likes the young group that they have. Lines says that the Swarm are just looking to improve and that the Mammoth will be a tough challenge. The last game was the Calgary Roughnecks' Dave Pym and the Edmonton Rush's Derek Keenan. Keenan said on Paul Rabil that they have had something in the works for a long time with the Stealth for Iannucci, and that they did help themselves and that Rabil will really give them a boost.

Pym said that there will be intensity with a rivalry like the Edmonton Rush, and Keenan mentioned that they just need to get a win more than the fact that they are playing Calgary. Pym also reiterated that Mike Poulin is their guy in net and they have complete confidence in him.
