National Lacrosse League Players of the Week
This afternoon the National Lacrosse League named their players of the week for week six, let's take a look at who gets the honors.
Offensive Player of the Week: Dan Dawson, Philadelphia Wings
Dan Dawson picked up a goal and nine assists in the Wings win over the Buffalo Bandits on Sunday afternoon, earning him the offensive player of the week. The former league MVP helped lead the Wings to a 3-2 record, tied for first place as they take on the Toronto Rock this Saturday. Dawson also leads the league in assists with 27.
Transition Player of the Week- Brodie Merrill, Philadelphia Wings
Brodie Merrill is the second Wing to get an award this week. Merrill had a hat trick and two assists in the game against Buffalo, along with ten loose balls. Merrill has fifty loose balls, good for third in the league. Merrill was acquired by Philadelphia from Edmonton this off season.
Defensive Player of the Week- Tyler Carlson, Minnesota Swarm
Tyler Carlson won his second ever NLL game on Friday night when he held the the Edmonton Rush to nine goals. In the second longest game in NLL history, he led the Swarm to an overtime win and their second win on the season. He made 32 saves on 41 shots from the Rush.
Rookie of the Week- Evan Kirk, Minnesota Swarm
In an odd twist, Carlson's back up Evan Kirk won rookie of the week. On Sunday afternoon, the second Swarm game of the week, Kirk held the Rochester Knighthawks to six goals in just his first ever NLL game. Kirk and Carlson were supposed to be the second and third string goalies, respectively, this season.
