Chesapeake Bayhawks Acquire John Grant Jr, Lizards Acquire Catalino
In a huge week of lacrosse trades, another super star is changing teams. This time, the league is Major League Lacrosse and the player is John Grant Jr. The Chesapeake Bayhawks have acquired Grant from the Long Island Lizards, MLL announced today.
The Lizards will get a second round draft picks from the Hawks, along with attackman Matt Gibson whom the Bayhawks drafted this past January. Grant was traded from the Hamilton Nationals to the Lizards in the middle of last season.
He was on the Rochester Rattlers who moved to Toronto and then Hamilton before last season. He was traded to Long Island to give the younger players a chance to play, and the Nationals got to the MLL Championship game.
This is the second big move by the Bayhawks this season, who also acquired Drew Westervelt from the Denver Outlaws earlier this season. They will also have former MLL goalie of the year Kip Turner. Brian Reese took over as team GM after he left Denver earlier in the off season.
Grant is having one of his best years in the National Lacrosse League with the Colorado Mammoth, where he leads the league in goals and points. Grant is a former MLL offensive player of the year and helped the Rattlers and Nationals win MLL titles in the past.
Inside Lacrosse also reports that it is a three way deal, with Rochester Rattlers attackman Grant Catalino traded to the Lizards as a part of the three way deal. Long Island's second round draft pick for go to Rochester in return.
MLL season starts on April 28, and the MLL collegiate draft was on January 13th. We might start to see more big moves as the season starts to wind closer.
