Bob Watson's Number is Raised to the Rafters Friday
It was announced before the season that the Toronto Rock would retire the number of goaltender Bob Watson, and this Friday, it is happening. Watson, who retired after leading the Rock to the NLL Championship in 2011, was also elected into the Hall of Fame this off season.
His number 29 will be raised into the rafters of Toronto's Air Canada Centre forever this Friday night, right before the Rock's tilt with the Rochester Knighthawks. The Rock, who have been in the NLL for 13 years, have never retired any other numbers.
Watson was at the forefront of Toronto's dynasty, where they won six championships in their 13 seasons. He was the starting goalie for all of those championships, and was named the Champions Cup MVP twice, including last season when they defeated the Washington Stealth.
Watson is a two time NLL goalie of the year and is the league's all time career saves leader. In his final season he won his 104th game to surpass the 100 career wins mark. He went 16-4 in twenty career playoff games.
His number will be retired before the game against Rochester. The ceremony will be about 15 minutes before faceoff, the Rock have announced via press release. They also encourage fans to be in their seats by 6:50 pm.

Watson will become only the 6th player in Toronto sports history to have his number retired. The Argos football club have 4, the Blue Jays 1, and while the Maple Leafs have numerous “honoured” numbers, none are officially retired.
