Furman University Adds Lacrosse Program
Inside Lacrosse is reporting that Furman University of South Carolina will be announcing men's and women's varsity lacrosse programs this Thursday. The Paladins, as the university's mascot name is, will be the only men's division one program in the state.
Furman intends to hire their head coaches by the end of the spring but also do not plan on playing until 2014, and that could be 2015 depending on coaches and when they feel ready to go. They will be the 64th men's varsity program, and will be the newest after Michigan who joins this season. Furmen will be the 97th women's program.
They play in Greenville, South Carolina, home to the MCLA tournament slated for the spring. Furman is part of a lacrosse outburst in the Carolina's, with the MCLA tournament there, with also the new pro teams Charlotte Hounds and the Charlotte Copperheads.
